About the project

“Humanity Inside The War”

The eponymous project of the Italian association “Humanity Inside War” is designed to help the youth community to study history firsthand, it also calls for discussing wars for a more complete understanding of the tragic events taking place in the war and post-war period. The project “Humanity Inside War” focuses on individual and collective aspects of humanity within the framework of military events, as well as the desire to highlight elements and situations that go in the direction of respect for the opponent, man or woman, even if he wears a different uniform or belongs to a different culture.

The project “Humanity Inside War” is based on the historical novel by Ferdinando Pascolo – “What an amazing guy”. In the novel, the author describes his personal life up to the last days of the Second World War. Ferdinand Pascolo (alias “Silla”) is an Italian soldier originally from Friuli, who initially fought on the territory of the USSR, and then in the guerrilla resistance against the fascist regime in Italy.

The history of “Silla” is full of humanity, nobility and altruism, and this is all despite the historical context and political criticism of the war, where the other side is a clear enemy. Ferdinando Pascolo in his book does not delve into the story of military operations, he tells us how he managed to feed and meet the basic needs of soldiers in this difficult wartime. It is these pages that give us a moral and ethical lesson in full.

The novel received high marks and gained considerable popularity. UNESCO gave a high assessment of the work:

“Since wars are born in the human soul, it is the human soul that should be brought up to protect peace,” became the source of inspiration for the project of the same name “Humanity Inside War.”

The 33rd Executive Council of the UNESCO World Federation was held in 2013 in Lucca and Florence. UNESCO, striving for peace, awarded its medal to the project “Humanity Inside War” on March 10, 2013 in Lucca. The next day, a general meeting of the World Federation of UNESCO Clubs, Centers and associations was held in Florence, on the occasion of which March 11 was declared the international Day of “Global Ethics”.

“Global ethics” – is an individual and at the same time collective behavior capable of coping with the existing global crisis, which concerns not only the economy, but also the environment, the values of civilizations and much more.

We realize that the memory of the past is necessary for the awareness of the present and respect for memory, which must also be restored through the language of the heart, feelings, emotions. Only in such a simple but effective way can we attract young people to study and study history.
